ANALYSE

Since 1931, the Oyster Perpetual – the first self-winding, waterproof wristwatch produced by Rolex – hasn’t changed much. Even today, it represents one of the cornerstones of the Maison’s success, as it was an elegant and sporty watch equipped with all the technical features for everyday wear with great versatility. The date complication at 3 o’clock was introduced in this model in 1962, and its production lasted until approximately 1977. Reference 1500 has become a true icon of vintage watchmaking.

The dial has a blue background that has taken on a beautiful and unique purple hue. Under direct sunlight, it becomes almost iridescent, with spectacular plays of light and various cool hues. Around the applied baton indexes, the interaction of the tritium with the chemical elements used to color the surface has created a beautiful “fringed” effect, allowing a glimpse of the gold subdial. The date window at 3 o’clock, visible under the “cyclopean” lens, is also framed by the same fringes, making this piece unique.

The unpolished case retains its iconic shape and instantly recognizable design. The sides are clean and soft, yet robust and solid. The screw-down case back is engraved with the previous owner’s name, lending this piece a mysterious allure.

This watch retains its beautiful original Oyster bracelet, complete with an original logo clasp.

The case houses the self-winding Rolex caliber 1570. It was created in 1965 based on the 1530 movement. It has a bidirectional rotor, 26 jewels, and runs at 19,800 A/h.
