The Tudor Oyster Prince was launched in the mid-1940s by Rolex’s sister company. It was intended to be an everyday watch, indestructible, waterproof, and precise. Its success was immediate, thanks in part to a massive marketing campaign that portrayed this line of new watches as ready for any adventure, including that of British Captain J.D. Walker, who wore an Oyster Price when he reached the Arctic in the far north of Greenland with his crew in 1952.<\/p>\n
The Date and Day variant was created in the late 1960s and is today one of the most popular and sought-after models among collectors of this brand.<\/p>\n
The dial is a beautiful, untouched purple\/blue treated with a vertical brushing, which makes the surface very “dynamic” in the light. The indices and hands are the same gold color, the same baton shape, and contain luminescent material. All these elements are combined with the gold graphics of the lettering and the peripheral minute track, as well as the beautiful fluted gold bezel. The date window is at 3 o’clock; at 12 o’clock, in a standard semi-circular aperture, is the day of the week in English. Just below, the applied shield, the Tudor symbol (post-rose), stands out.<\/p>\n
This elegant dial\/bezel composition complements the solid structure of the underlying steel Oyster case. Its iconic shape amplifies its presence on the wrist thanks to its exceptional 38mm size, which makes this reference extremely rare.<\/p>\n
