This is the first model of 12 of the Ovi high-end series, made by Sailor in 2007, each one a unique painting; literally, ‘Kamon no ichi’ means ‘twilled design number one’, and its main subject, crafted onto the cap, is ‘Hanabishi Tatewakuman’, which refers to a traditional flower pattern. It has been created through traditional techniques that require the highest degree of craftsmanship, making it not only a treasure of incomparable beauty but also a testament to the higher skills of the group of artists in Wajima, Ishikawa prefecture, who painted this masterpiece.
This big pen is approximately 16cm long and fits a marvelous 21k-gold ‘King of pen’ size nib, which is the biggest size of nib made by Sailor so far, and fills with a special built-in converter made exclusively for this model.
This prestigious series of pens is described in the book Fountain Pens of Japan by Andreas Lambrou and Masamichi Sunami.

Immerse yourself in the age-old elegance of Maki-e, the ancient Japanese art that transforms every object into a masterpiece. With a history dating back to the Heian period, Maki-e is the urushi lacquer decoration technique that involves the meticulous application of precious metal powders, primarily gold and silver, into exquisite designs. The result is a deeply lustrous surface and breathtaking detail, where light dances across intricate patterns, creating an unparalleled visual and tactile experience. Owning a Maki-e pen means safeguarding a fragment of Japan’s rich artistic tradition, a work of art destined to endure.

Isshū Tamura – Master of Kaga Maki-e:
Every detail of this pen is a testament to the genius and mastery of Isshū Tamura (田村一舟), one of the most illustrious names in contemporary maki-e art. Born in Kanazawa, the heart of the centuries-old Kaga Maki-e school, Tamura is a “Traditional Craft Artist” certified by the Japanese Ministry of Commerce. His art is distinguished by extreme precision and meticulousness, the fruit of years of apprenticeship and an almost obsessive dedication to detail, so much so that he uses microscopes and brushes made from personally selected hairs. His works, ranging from fountain pens to luxury watches, are celebrated for their ability to blend tradition with unparalleled refinement. Created by Isshū Tamura, this pen is not just an object, but a piece of art, created by a true master.
