ANALYSIS
This magnificent chronograph has the soul of the 70s in it: cushion gold case and a sporty multi-color dial.
This particular model was launched by Longines in the late 1960s and has the particularity of having the trotteuse segmented by special notches to detect the tenth of a second with great precision during chronometry operations. This chronograph hand uses the principle of the Vernier scale, from its French inventor, Pierre Vernier (1580 – 1637). It is called “Nonio”, which is the section of the caliber equipped with a graduated line for detecting fractions of the unit of measurement. This chronograph hand was used by Longines initially on pocket chronographs for sports use in 1966, subsequently its use extended to wrist chronographs. The patent was filed in 1971 with the n°DE1673822, although its use had already been tested previously.
This particular example is in exceptional condition of conservation.
Its immaculate dial is gold and black with yellow minute track and thick applied indexes of parallelepiped shape. The gold hour and minute hands fit wonderfully into this circular space. The typical “comb” trotteuse and the small hand of the chronograph minute counter stand out with their bright orange color.
The waterproof case in solid 18K gold has a screw case back and pump buttons. It has the cushion shape – typical of the taste of the period – with the surface treated with a radial satin finish, which converges from the inside to the outside.
The engine of this exceptional chronograph is the Valjoux 72 renamed by Longines cal.330 and has an exceptional chamfering workmanship of all the chronograph control levers.
To package this amazing watch there are the original black leather strap and the buckle produced by the great manufacturer UNROC.
