Description

A RARE EARLY SILVER WRISTWATCH IN THE FORM OF AN AUTOMOBILE RADIATOR.

Made for the Ford Motor Co. case, circa 1920’s / 1930’s.
15-jewel, adjusted, manual winding movement with crown at 12 o’clock mimicking a radiator cap, shaped oxidized grille textured dial with raised arabic chapters.

Gilt hands, within a silver radiator case with blue enameled Ford logo, hinged wire lugs, leather strap with steel buckle, case, dial and movement signed.

Founded in 1918, Mido quickly established a reputation for elegant enameled lady’s bracelet watches. During the 1920’s, at the request of Ettore Bugatti, the firm produced a limited number of watches in the form of Bugatti’s distinctive radiator grille. Sensing a market in the growing automobile industry, Mido made similar limited edition watches for other firms, including the present example for Ford.
