ANALYSIS

In 1947, Swiss watchmaker Vital Bueche started the production of supply movements in Nidau, in the Canton of Bern. Merging his surname with that of his wife, he registered the Bueche Girod brand that same year (also registered at the cantonal offices of Bienne and Ponts-de-Martel. Initially, he supplied larger Maisons such as Universal Geneve with components, but then he dedicated himself to the complete production of designer watches, which were very successful especially between the 60s and 70s.

In particular, he produced small watches for ladies with cases in noble metal and enriched with bezels in precious stones. The shapes of these small masterpieces recall the production of Cartier and Baume & Marcier in the same years and were aimed at the same clientele.

Considering the high craftsmanship and small size of the company, Bueche Girod was unable to launch large-scale production and for this reason today its watches are particularly sought after by collectors.

This “Ellipse” reference 6714-1 is therefore rare to find.

The dial is white, very sober, with numbers Roman numerals positioned radially and running along the elliptical periphery. At the center of it is the signature in cursive Bueche Girod. The hands are black and shaped like a stick.

The “ellipse” case is in solid 18Kt yellow gold and was produced by the master goldsmiths of Guyot & Cie in La Chaux-de-Fonds (hammer head hallmark n°122). The crown is positioned at 12 o’clock so as not to dirty the elliptical profile of the case. The lugs are an integral part of the central body: they extend like a tubular structure and then bend inwards. The entire composition is rounded and tapered in a very elegant way.

Inside is the tried and tested ETA 2412 manual winding movement with 17 jewels and Incabloc.
