ANALYSIS
Founded in 1737 by Abraham Favre in Grenchen, Favre-Leuba is Switzerland’s second-oldest watch brand, just two years younger than Blancpain. What began as a small workshop in Le Locle grew into a global name synonymous with exploration, innovation, and rugged precision, with an important past as a watch importer in India.
During its long manufacturing tradition, Favre-Leuba has been able to intercept the tastes of many eras until the advent of the quartz crisis, which led the Maison to crumble and then be reborn in the present.
This small and exceptional watch is a shining example of the high quality achieved in the production of elegant, classic watches, in precious material and with workmanship of the highest excellence.
The dial is white, quadrant-shaped, and has pyramid-shaped indexes applied to the quarters. The rest of its surface features a traditional black pad printing. In the center of the dial at 12 o’clock is the Favre-Leuba Geneve signature; at 6 o’clock is the writing Swiss Made. The hands are golden pencil-shaped. The cube-shaped mineral crystal is very thick and rises above the dial, giving three-dimensionality to the case surface as well.
The solid 18Kt yellow gold case has an elongated and flat rectangular shape with medium-long inclined lugs. Its “bark effect” surface was worked with the “hammering” technique in the workshop of the master casemaker Revor, who was active in La Chaux-de-Fonds from 1934 (hammer head hallmark n°351) and is now owned by Caterina Brussa-Sacchi.
The watch has the original signed black strap that closes with the fantastic gold-plated buckle produced by UNROC which also features the Favre-Leuba logo.
Under the case back of this very rare watch is the beautiful miniaturized rectangular-shaped caliber FHF 59-21 and produced since ’65. It measures only 9 mm x 21.4 mm and is 3.45 mm thin. A real gem with Incabloc and metal bezel on the escapement jewel. It runs fast. The variation of the base caliber 59, namely the 59-21, has a frequency of 21,600 A/h, which makes this Favre-Leuba watch even more spectacular.
