ANALYSIS
If you have ever entered the Pantheon in Rome you will certainly have admired the grandiose dome-shaped ceiling and would have been struck by the architectural workmanship called by art historians “lacunar” or “coffered”. This structure had an architectural function because it allowed to lighten the weight, but it also had an aesthetic function, as it repeated cavities (square, rectangular or octagonal) obtained in a ceiling arranged in a regular manner. Ingenious ancient Italian architectural rule that has passed first in the Renaissance tradition up to the present day. If you think that this theme does not seem to fit into that of vintage watches you are wrong.
This fantastic Vacheron Constantin with octagonal case takes these concepts and reworks them to create a unique object.
The dial is chocolate brown, has a grained background with baton indexes at the hours and has pencil-shaped hands. It is set deep into the beautiful “lacunar” shaped 18Kt solid yellow gold case. Its profile is truly unique and rare to see: the upper part and the lower part of the case have a very protruding profile. These two octagonal sections work like the frame of a Renaissance ceiling and leave space for the central body of the case. This is truly a work of art signed by Vacheron Constantin and the master casemaker who produced it. On the side there is the beautiful crown logoed with the Maltese Cross that harmonizes with the composition.
This 70s wonder comes complete with its original signed black strap and rare 750 yellow gold buckle.
Inside this little gold sculpture is the fabulous Vacheron K1050/B manually wound ovoid-shaped chronometer-regulated caliber.
